I have a 97' Mercury Sable, w/3.0 Liter V-6... Recently I have been having electrical probs. It started out that my radio would only play sound when the car was in Park, or Neurtal. The radio would turn on in other gears, just NO sound unless it was in Park or Neutral. This was a on and off problem. Then it go where the Power steering, and windows would stop working and I could here a clicking sound that sounded like a relay in the sterring wheel column engaging, and dis-ingaging making all of the following work and not work.
It now working okay, except that occasionally the "dinger" lol, the attention signal, (you know, the "ding, ding, ding, ding) that you would hear when you get out with the lights on and ket out of the ignition would sound while Im driving, and no reason for it. No warning lights on, no doors open.., just the attention alarm going on. And also my gas gauge has all of a suden stopped working. So now the prob I have is the gas gauge isnt working, the front radio speakers arent working, and I get an occasional Attention alarm while Im driving for no apparent reason!!!
Im thinking the computer is going out, or got water/moisture in one of the sensors or something.. Right now the power steering is working fine, and the radio works fine in all gears except the front speakers arent working...
I bought the car 3 years ago, and it has ran, and worked GREAT till about a month or so ago...
Any Ideas???

Okay I found 2 other post with the same EXACT problems I am having... To repair the problem one guy brought it to ford and they replaced the Transmission Range Sensor. They said it was causing these probs because it left an open circuit causing all the other probs.

Does anyone know if this sounds possible?? And does anyone know where the range Sensor is, and is their a way to check it?? How much they are???

Please, any help again thankful!

Okay, I found the Transmission Range Sensor, and removed it, does anyone know if it can be tested to see if its any good.??
I would think that when you turn the little wheel you should feel definate clicks for each gear. I hear small clicks and the wheel is loose. (what I call the wheel is the part that turns when you switch between gears..)

If anyone can just tell me if their is a way to check it before I purchase one, and does anyone know about how much they are..?

Wes...IMHO if the part is not expensive I would just replace it. You found other symptoms and that was the problems right? I would say just replace the part. Not all sensors can be tested and unfortunately can get very expensive if you have to replace a bunch of them before you hit the "right" one.
