Moved to correct section. I guess nobody reads the stickied post before posting in the wrong section. Why didn't you replace the complete starter motor instead of it's solenoid??? Are the battery connections clean and tight??? Does everything go dead when the click is heard or does everything stay on when it clicks???

Re: 97 Taurus no go!!!

hope it is your starter. the 3.0 ohv engine has a cam position sensor that when it goes the oil pressure drops out and the engine seizes

Start cheap and get the battery tested.

biggrin Re: 97 Taurus no go!!!

The battery is good. I know about the cam piston sensor, I replaced mine one year ago this month. Along with the entire water system. What a headache that was!! As for the starter vs. solenoid I would rather pay $42. for the solenoid vs. $137. for the starter motor. But it doesn't really matter now because I had the starter tested & it is the motor. So back I go to take the solenoid back & buy the hole starter. Well thanks for everybody's responses! See ya!!!
