My wifes 98 Taurus heater just recently started blowing only warm air. It used to blow so hot it would almost burn your hand in front of the vents.
I flushed the radiator last winter when I replaced a tranny line so I know the antifreeze is good.
My wife doesn't drive the car but maybe twice a week so I was thinking maybe the heater core had crud settling in it. How difficult is it to flush the heater core out on this car? I have done it with my Chevy truck in the past and it was pretty simple but you also had much more room to work around.

It is not hard to flush the core. I would start with a flush since the coolant gets nasty in Taurus models quite quickly.

Make sure your radiator fluid is full.Other than that, yes a system flush would be a good starting point.

The antifreeze is fine...also I flushed the radiator last winter. I guess I just need to flush the heater core out though. How hard is it to access?

Take a look and you will see it's not that bad. It's all there on the passenger side.

Thanks for the replies. Mullet man...I will look at it tonight. I just haven't had a chance yet. My wife doesn't use the car all too much. Maybe once or twice a week. I figure crud probably has just settled in the core. Thanks again.
