I have a 98 Taurus DOHC with 80k miles on it and 3 weeks ago pulling into work the check engine light came on and it died. It started back up and I can drive it but it idles like it only has 3 of the spark plugs firing or as if it isn’t getting gas. I can hear a hissing but cannot find any leak at all(vacuum) so after doing some research I disconnected the MAF and even though it makes the idle go higher it eventually evens out and the stalling rarely happens when I drive with it disconnected and the idle smooths out and the engine does not run rough at all but just idles spuratically. Could this be the cause? The MAF? Most things I have seen point to this as the problem.

Try cleaning it with the special MAF cleaner and see if that helps.

I will try to make it there tonight. But to you does that soound like a MAF failure?

Im trying to find it online but could someone plz give me an idea of where the DPFE sensor is? i know where the MAF is but heard the DPFE mite be the problem also.

I dobt that it's the DPFE but it's located near the rear of the engine toward the brake master cylinder area. Do you know what it looks like?

I will have to look again but maybe a black box with 3 hoses coming into it?

Here's what it should look like. I still think the MAF should be cleaned and then look for other problems if that doesn't fix it.
