98 vulcan w/ AX4N after swap questions - Ford Forums

Hi, looking for help on a transmission swap. 98 w/ vulcan and AX4s, 160K mi. A friend offered to swap in an AX4N and was convinced it would work. Runs fine except occasionally throws P1744 TCC slip error and pops to neutral at slow speeds. After much reading it appears that the gear ratios are different giving it the impression it is slipping when it is not. The TCC was swapped to make sure, plus any other sensor he could get his hands on.

Before I give up on this car I'd like to try an ECU from a heavy duty taurus. Supposedly there were a few made with this combination. Can anyone help me find a part number of the ECU?

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Rebuild your ax4s and put it back. Your vehical is one year only on that transmission. AX4N won't work. DO NOT change the engine computer. You will fix the trans but screw up the motor.

You can get a PCM flasher and change the gear ratios that will allow the car to act like it should. Not cheap though but has more advantages than just replacing the chain and gears at about the same cost.
