Hi my 99 taurus when holding the gas pedal to the floor will only rev up to
4000 RPMs and then drop back down to a normal idle no mater how long I keep it floored . Can any one tell me what is going on with my car

Do you also have driveability issues? I had a Contour that developed an intermittent problem that felt like a slipping clutch, although it was an automatic. It also did the same thing you mention about not revving up in park or neutral. I replaced the transmission position sensor and it fixed both problems.

no it drives fine . It only dose it in park or neutral.

I have to ask, why would you want to over-rev the engine in park or neutral?

its not that I what to over rev the car, It's that I can't and that tell me someting is wrong
