Hello all,

My 99 Taurus with 160K km, recently A/C starts to blow hot air only, no matter how I switched from Hot to Cold, from A/C to Max A/C, only HOT air.

it happened one time last year, when I turned A/C on, only hot air, after drove 30-40 minutes, I got cool air and it worked fine for that whole day. and I never used A/C since last year.

Bert, Ci360, do you know what the problem could be? thanks

Does the compressor come on? Do you hear the blend door motor run when you turn the control from cold to hot and back? (That's with the key on and engine off to hear it better.)

Thank you Bert for the quick reply.
I just wen down to have a check. the control from Hot air to cold air on my control panel is not a real switch, turn clockwise, air is from cold to hot and vise versa.
I turned the key on and left the engine off.

First I set the climate control to A/C, no mater I turn the control from hot to cold or cold to hot, nothing can hear except the fan.

then I tried MAX A/C, same as above.

but when I switch from MAX A/C to A/C ( not matter the temperature control is set to cold or hot), I can hear a short "choo".

Moving it from cold to hot or the opposite should move the blend door. It;s a little quiet so you really have to listen close. Turn the fan to low. How about the compressor, did it come on?

when I turn from hot to cold or cold to hot, I could not notice any differences. also, could not notice the on/off of the compressor.

Bert, actually in winter, ther is no hot air blows out as well, I thought that might be some problem with the heater core. do you think there is any relationship between No Hot air in winter and Not cold air in summer?

It's very possible that the blend door motor is bad. Have someone see if the compressor comes on.

is it easy to replace the blend door motor?

Take off the sound-deadening panel under the glovebox, deform sides of glovebox inward to release the stops, and swing the glovebox down (ie open it too far). Two screws to remove from inside the glovebox area, four from the driver's side, and it pulls right out.
Don't worry about it yet.

Turned the climate control to A/C and turn temperature control to Coldest, started engine and left it run at idle, checked A/C compressor, the clutch was not engaged at all.

will check the fuse after work.

Checked A/C fuse which is beside the Brake padel. looks like working - did not get a test light to test it though.

anywhere else should I check?
