I am getting a nice condition 95 Taurus SE with 3.0L motor. The car was sitting most of the time for about a year. When I do a tuneup would it be a waste of money to buy Accel plugs and wires? I want to have a good mix of gas mileage and a little pep to it too.
Any ideas?

Get some good platinum or double platinum plugs and premium wires. Don't waste your money on Accel for a Taurus besides you are only buying a name and a little yellow paint.

Any personal favorites you can recommend? I have to admit I am starting at ground zero and don't know the relative merits of various types. All input is appreciated.

I use autolight platinums from Wally World and Premium wires from a part store. The only thing that I don't recommend is the Bosch double platinums with the mutiple electrode such as the Bosch +2 or +4's. I tried the Bosch +2 once and had a firing problem. Motorcraft Platinums are also good plugs and you can get them at any parts store. Don't forget to change the Fuel Filter and Air filter if needed.

jwko is right on the money about not buying racing wires. These systems require carbon fiber core wires. If you put Accel racing wires in, you'll have nothing but trouble--might even burn out a few very expensive parts. If you have a distributor ignition system, single platinums are just fine since they only fire in one direction. If you have a distributorless ignition system (24 valve engine) then you really should use double platinums since the plugs fire both ways.
