99 Ford Taurus.
- started to have clanking noise 2 weeks ago
- sent to MIDAS yesterday, got the water pump replaced, cost me $420 :(, noise is gone.

but it started building air in coolant and once engine gets hot, the high pressure (due to the air) throws coolant out of reservoir from the cap. it never had this problem before. could that be the mechanic did something wrong?

the mechanic could not tell exactly why, he said it might be the Gasket head leaks, but to replace it will cost at least $1200. he suggested not to drive it too long to make engine too hot, and checking coolant before every drive.

what should I do now?

Try bleeding cooling system , if still pressurising get a block test carried out to check head gasket .

Take it he checked thermostat is not sticking ?

do you mean to drain the coolant and fill again? mechanic did it but air still build up. he said might be the head gasket, but not able to confirm.

When the coolant system is refilled , run till reaching normal temp. and heater blowing normally .Next check if needing topped up . Then , if needed bleed system .

the MIDAS mechanics did a couple of times, air is still built up.

from my home to office is 5 KM, I drove to work and home a couple of times and saw a bit overflow from the cap. will monitor it more.

need to go out of town this weekend, will take local drive (scared to use highway) and see how it goes.

btw, is Ford Fusion 2.5L a decent car to buy?

If they carry out a block test it will confirm or not if head gasket gone .Simple , quick test .Just be careful going any distance as it could cause further damage IF head gasket is blown . The Ford Fusion 2.5L is sold over here as the Mondeo and all reports I've heard from those in the trade have been very good so far.
