Does anyone know why a 2000 Taurus SE's air conditioning wouldn't turn off when the dial is switched off air or max air and to vent, floor, or dash? We recently realized that this was happening. Any suggestions on where to look?

Hi, I have a 01 with same issue. Ford and several people on this site said that is how it's supposed to be. The only setting that the compressor won't run is on vent. Floor, blend and defrost all run the compressor. Why? I don't have a clue, I guess it's a Ford Thing.

edit* just re-read your question, if it's running on vent you have a switch issue I would think. Get out with system on vent and see if the compressor's clutch is engaged or cycling.
