Had an antenna that would not move up or down on my wife's taurus.. Thought I would "fix it". I was barely able to get my hand on the motor (thru the rear panel after removing the spare). I tried to pull the antenna up, figured it might be jammed.
Now the motor justs grinds for about 2 minutes then stops with no antenna movement when the radio is turned on or off.

I guess the antenna has to be replaced. Is there a direct replacement for this antenna/motor assembly?

You can put in a new Factory replacement for a small fortune or get a "Universal" antennae at a parts store.

Thanks, I was referring to an aftermarket replacement like you suggested. Just wonder how hard it would be to retrofit.
I'm not even sure if I can get it out. I can't even see how or where it is mounted...
Read a post that ford charges $280.00 for the antenna/motor assembly.

you may even luck out and find the original ford part on ebay.

If you could get it pulled up you can unplug the power wires to the antenna motor and leave it up.

Great idea, I may try that if i'm unable to get a replacement at a reasonable price.
