I posted last week about my 2001 that stalled when put into drive, but didn't stall if it was put into Reverse and then into drive. It did it a couple/few times last Tuesday, but not since then.

My 17 yr old drives it. Should I wait until it happens again, or could it be serious? I have the impression a trans shop might be needed if there is a problem. I'd prefer to wait for it to happen again before I visit a trans shop, but don't know how worried I should be.

There were a few thoughts, but I was hoping for more.

Car is a 2001 with 85000 miles. WHat useful life expectancy might I expect. I think I should have kept shopping (back in April), but he really liked this one. (black w/spoiler and sunroof)....

all I can say is the transmission is the weakest link on the Taurus. I think you should have kept shopping too, I wish I would have back in 01 when I bought ours. I have not had transmission troubles but I also drive it like a old lady. I have had everything else go wrong though.

If your 17 yr old is like I was at that age either buy a lifetime warranty when you have the trans rebuilt or trade that thing off for something older that can handle the teenage abuse (not saying your son is like that, but we were all 17)
