while driving at night? Happened to me the other night as I was driving up the street. The headlights went out, my dash went out as well for a couple seconds. Then came back on, then went out and came back on again. Scared the crap out of me and was quite dangerous. I bet the car in front of me was wondering why I was flashing my lights as him. This is a 2001 Taurus Station Wagon.

Do you have autolamps and were they on??? (One position to the left of the off position.) If so your sun sensor may be going out.

Hi tbird.

I just have the standard lamps.

One other thing I thought I would mention, when I switch from vent to heater, or roll up or down the automatic windows, the headlights will dim a little. It has been this way since I bought the car in 2003. I put a new battery in a little over a year ago as well.

I don't believe the headlight/dashlight turning off problem has not replicated itself in the past week or so since it originally occurred, I thought it might have tonight for a second, but I'm not sure, it was a well lit street.
