CD Changer

We just got an '01 SES with 26,000 miles. Loaded, leather, sunroof etc.
It has changer controls on the radio. But if it has a changer, I cannot find it. I am sure it is big enough if it had it, we would see it, right?

Re: CD Changer

My '98 Taurus SE has a 6 disk in the trunk in the left rear corner. Yes it's pretty hard to miss so I'm guessing thatthey built the car using the cd option stereo/climate panel but never installed the cd changer itself. Even if you're lucky enough to have all the wiring for it...the changer is still an expensive option. I had the local dealer price one for me on a Sable and it was just about $1000 for them to install one. (the Sable wasn't wired for it although the dash had the cd changer controls).

The 2000-2004 models did not come with changers unless you ordered one.....I am pretty sure. The factor radio have the controls so if you wanted to purchase one (from Ford) they can hook it up to the factory radio and not have an extra control module laying around up front. When you purchase an aftermarket CD Changer you gotta make sure and get the adapter to hook it into the factory radio. Depending on the vehicle it can go from 20.00--50.00.

Re: CD Changer

Best Buy has good deals on aftermarket CD Changers. Check with them and also check to see if you need to get the adapter with the changer to hook it into the factory radio. You dont have to have the cd changer hooked into the factory radio though....you can alsways use the faceplate that comes with it.

Thumbs up Re: CD Changer

Aftermarkets are a bargain compared to the dealer installed package. I had a 10 CD Kenwood changer installed in the side of the trunk of my 2000 SES and it has been a great addition. Got a great deal at Circuit City, including installation. No need to purchase an adapter, the Kenwood control panel is very small. On mine we Velcroed the CD controller under the AC/heater controls on the dash. It looks good and offers control via the panel buttons or the included remote. Installation took about 90 minutes. By the way, I've now got 134,000 miles on the clock. The Taurus has been a good ride for the business driving I do. It's one of the better looking sedans around, IMHO. The 3.0L Duratec OHC V6 has good power and the vehicle handles well for a heavy sedan (seems like all sedans are heavy these days).

Unfortunately all uni-body and subframe platform cars.....which are most sedans are pretty heavy. I have grown quite attached to the Ford 500 too!!! We had one come to our car show at my plant and it was beautiful. I have liked it since it was first announced but after seeing it in person its even better!!

cool Re: CD Changer

Some 1996-present Taurus/Sables come with the Cd changer as an option or standard on some upper models. My 2001 SEL came standard with one.
