code p0456 to be fixed

I have had this code on my 2000 sel taurus (24v) for awhile now. Was given advice from a local garage to check the hoses on the vapor canister. Where is this located under the hood? I would like very much not to spend a fortune to solve this issue. If taken to a ford dealership, would a test that they might perform to find the source of the problem empty my wallet?

Re: code p0456 to be fixed

How does the gas cap look? my Crown Vic had that code and I found a piece of what looked like a strand of hair. I cleaned that off and haven't had the light come back on. Even a bad gas cap can do that.

As far as the dealer goes, it depends on the dealer. Some are good and some aren't.

Re: code p0456 to be fixed

I checked to gas tank filler head (where you put the gasoling pump, and noticed some what looked like rust particles around the neck. I took some off with my fingers and replaced cap. Disconnected the negative battery cable for about 20 seconds and after driving for about an hour, maybe 40 miles, the light hasnt come back on yet. Hope that worked. Thanks for the advice

The tank has to be between ¼ and ¾ when you drive it.

Vapor canister is located under the trunk pan. Let us know if this stays fixed or not.
