2000 flexfuel sohc v6

this will be the third reservoir I've had to install in this car... this one makes a gurgling noise at temp, looses coolant, and when i took it off to replace the water pump, i realized it looked like it was developing cracks everywhere. while they don't seem to transverse both surfaces, i think those cracks are to blame for the loss of coolant and gurgling noise.

the new one is 96 bucks at ford, and theres no VatoZone equivalent. ive been screwing with the coolant system on this car for years now, and im wondering if i did/am doing something wrong!

the second and current tank i put on the car was meant for the other color of anti-freeze (dont remember which one i had but it was for the other one), but ever since i got it about 4 years ago ive been running the yellow stuff thats good for both.


i dont understand why im having to replace the tank on a fairly regular basis! anyone with any thoughts on how to keep my new tank from meeting the same demise??

Are you getting the aftermarket clear topped tanks or the OEM black topped tank? The OEM ones are junk.

Dorman makes the clear topped one as do others I suppose. Commonly available at almost all autoparts stores or online for around $40US. There are two types one for the 12 valve and one for the 24/32 valve Taurus motors.

the one that came with the car was clear, with the ford logo embossed on it, as was the second one. i just ordered an aftermarket one with a black top. warrantied for a year. i did see the dormans while i was online. ill try that mnext if need be. for now- jb weld lol

The one I bought from the dealer for my 2001 Taurus SEL Duratec a couple years ago was a clear top.

I bought a Dorman (clear top) from rockauto. So far so good.

Just tonight I installed a Dorman in my vulcan equipped '98. Came from RockAuto yesterday for $28.60 delivered. Model 603-200 with a black top - don't see any option for a clear top. Maybe it depends on which year or engine you have? Slipped right in and fits perfect.

I have a theory that maybe the hold-down bolts cause stress as the tank heats, pressurizes and expands, so I'm leaving the bolts loose. Even without the bolts, it's not like it's going anywhere.....
