I have a 97 Mercury Sable 3.0 SOHC. My wife went to go to work this morning and the battery was dead. I came home and jumped it off thinking it needed a new battery and proceeded to take it to work with me to fix it on my lunch break. When I parked and turned off the car, I noticed the fan was still blowing on the inside. I turned the dash switch to the off position and it was still blowing. I popped the hood and pulled the 40A Cooling Fan fuse and the fan stopped blowing.

Is this a switch issue or is it a blower motor relay?

Is this the Radiator Fan, or the inside AC/Heater Fan?

I guess it's the inside a/c fan. There is air still blowing through the dash with car off, key in my hand and fan switch on dash turned to off.

That's what I'm leaning toward. I have basically ruled out a/c switch on dash because it still controls the amount of air blowing in all positions. It just fails to shut power of when in the off position. My logic is that when in the off position if it's still getting power from somewhere then a relay isn't working. And my understanding of a relay is that the relay breaks the connection of power from the source. Obviously this breakage of power is not happening. I'm praying this is the issue because it's a $10 part that takes seconds to replace. I can't really afford a trip to the shop or the hassle of pulling a fuse every time.

Came across this re. a similar fault with heater " in the fuse box under the hood, , swap the #23 relay with the #24 relay and see if the blower works " .Not sure if it applies but worth a look ?

check saftey recalls, i replaces my plug for the same problem
