HI I have a 2000 Ford Taurus and I am going to do tuneup.
Car has 178,000 miles and I wonder if I should replace the ignition coil besides the wireset and plugs. No codes or problems just preventative maintenance.

Why ? As they say " if it don't need fixin don't F$&@ with it." but if you want to spend the money go for it. Keep the new coil pack as a back up when the old one packs it in if
and when it does.

good idea. if and when you need to buy a new coil pack in the future the price will be almost double. You can get a new one now for a good price compared to next years price.
If the coil pack doesn't pack it in and you sell your car just add a few extra bucks in the
price to cover the coil. No one will know and throw in the coil.

Coil??? I'd rather carry a spare serpentine belt with me....

I replaced my wires/plugs with NGK V power plugs and NGK wireset, great thus far!

I liked Taylor with their spiro Pro 8mm wires. However, in my area the temperament climate didn't agree too well with the silicon boots and even being careful I managed to separate the wire...oops.

Half the price of Ford OEM! Besides, my Dodge runs great on the VPower plugs so I just buy the same for all vehicles...makes things easier. Been using them in the Taurus for 6 years with no problems and I can still get good mileage for copper core plugs!
