My mom has a 97 taurus gl. She says it's not the base engine, but it doesen't have the 24valve plaques on it which makes me wonder. And is the vulcan engine a pushrod, I think I read somewhere it was ohv. Can you tell by looking in the engine compartment?

to my knowledge, all GL's had the vulcan, but to be sure, open it up, if it says Duratec on the Plenum/Intake Manifold then that's what it is. if the intake manifold is all curvy and looks small then it's a vulcan, the duratec one is larger and is more squared off. I could also find out for you if you give me the VIN.

It's the vulcan engine, didn't say duratec anywhere, and they looked just like you said it would. She kept swearing it was the inbetween engine. At least it's not a 3.8 :)
