Hello all, my wife's car quit running, was cranking fine but wouldn't start. We had it towed home and it started up the next morning and ran fine. The engine light came on later that day,had it looked at and was diagnosed as code #1237,fuel pump secondary circuit failure. The shop wanted to replace the fuel pump for $800. we payed the diagnostic charge and drove it home. The light went out and the car runs fine. Took it to get a second opinion and were told they couldn't find anything wrong and to keep driving it. He thought maybe she had hit a bump and the fuel pump shut off and reset when we had it towed home.The check engine light hasn't came back on and the car seems to be running fine. Has any one else had this happen and what was the solution? Its is a 2000, with 24 valve Duratec motor. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Use the engine off and the engine running self test, if the code is
not present in the self tests, it’s an intermittent problem. Check for battery voltage at the fuel pump monitor line going to the PCM. Check for battery power to the fuel pump and to the fuel pump driver module circuit going to the PCM. Here's the diagram for the circuit. Tauruspump.jpg picture by rtg143 - Photobucket

Thanks, I'm not sure if the second mechanic ran all those tests. Is this something that could happen again, as far as the car shutting down?

Intermittant problems are hard to get an answer to. They can reaappear. In the old days there were weak spots and when they quit, they usually quit for good and it was easy to find the problem. Now things are built better. It may or may not happen again.
