Hey guys/gals,

I just picked up a '97 Taurus GL and so far I am very happy with it considering what it cost me.

If I have been driving for more than 20 miles (everything's nice and warmed up) and leave it sit for about an hour, it will idle erratically and sometimes stall when I start it again. If I just tap the gas it will idle high for a few seconds and come back down to a normal, steady idle. It will only do this if the car has been sitting for an hour or so. Pops right off in the morning and same if it's only been off for a little while or a few hours. Engine runs steady and smooth and the gas mileage is right on.

I had an Eagle Talon that would do the same thing and it turned out to be perfectly normal so I am wondering if that's the case here?

Could be a lot of different things from bad coil pack, bad plug wires, bad spark plugs, vacuum leak (are the intake boots clamped on tight and crack free?), bad camshaft position sensor, or maybe leaking injector seals.

I would recommend going to autozone and getting them to scan the car. You can get the codes if any and be able to diagnose the issue from there.
