Hi all, ive noticed that while driving at night my headlights will flicker every so often, included with that my dashboard console flickers, nothing major but just annoying. I know its not the alternator because i just had to put a brand new one in and the battery is new. I also had my wiring checked and they said it checked out fine, any idea what the cause of this may be and how i can fix it?

I have a 1996 LX wagon and have the same problem. I can't figure it out either. I some some lady driving a 1998 and her headlights were doing some MAJOR flickering as well.

It may not be the alternator, but it could be the internal voltage regulator inside the alternator. They sometimes don't check for that. Intermittant internal voltage regulator malfultions are common with all fords. Have them check that out.

Also, It may be in your best interest to get the electrical schematics and look for a loose ground.

Check your headlight switch. don't be suprised if is melted a bit or has cooroded connections.

Happened to me,. scary when all goes out at night.!!1

^ I agree. Those headlight switches get very hot and will fail after time.

I see the original post is from January. Wonder if they changed the alternator yet?

I'm not sure what causes the flickering but I had the same problerm with my 95 sable.I put in a very large sound system and I installed 5 capacitors for 2 1000 watt amps and poof!I haven't had the flicker in almost 2 years now.Can't tell you why.
