I just changed the thermostat on my car and it still runs hot. so i want to change the engine coolant temperature sensor but i cant find it anywhere

. I got one of those chilton books but no help there i'd appreciate some help here
from the pros

Description and Operation

The water temperature indicator sender unit is mounted into the thermostat housing bypass tube.

REMOVAL

Partially drain engine cooling system.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
Disconnect engine control sensor wiring from Engine Coolant Temperature sensor (ECT sensor) .
Remove engine coolant temperature sensor.

INSTALLATION

Follow removal procedure in reverse order.
Tighten engine coolant temperature sensor to 14-19 N.m (11-14 Lb-Ft) .
Refill engine cooling system.

I Would Like To Suggest A Far Simpler And Absurd Quirk Inherent To The Dohc. The Simplest Loosen The Reservior Cap Until You Hear The Hiss Of Pressure Release Drive The Car Like That. If You No Longer Have The Overheating Problem Then We Go To The Next Absurdity. If You Lose Anti-freeze While Driving You Possibly Have A Blown Engine. But You Probably Won't Experience This. Was The Thermostat You Put In A 180 Degrees. It Should Have Been-ford Changed The Specs To Save The Transmissions. When You Replaced The Thermostat Did You Note Some Black Grit On The Thermostat. If So The Water Pump Has Started Disintegrating And Needs To Be Replaced. It's A Dog To Do Bui You Can If You Have Stand Jacks. And The Wrench To Remove The Serpentine Belt. Remember The Disintegrating Water Pump Will Clog The Heat Exchanger Coil.

She has a 3.0L Duratec- The water pump is not hard to do and can be done with the car on the ground from up top. By the way, 99CTSable's illustration of the coolant sensor is a picture of a 3.0L Vulcan- the Duratec is in the same general area. By the way LEWAT, by what reasoning do you go by that the engine is completely blown if it uses coolant while driving??? How do you know it isn't just head gaskets??? If it looses coolant while driving the first thing I would do is pressure test the cooling system. If it holds pressure then I would then pressure test the radiator cap. If the cap does not hold only 2 psi under the cap spec than the cap is bad. If the cap is not allowing the system to hold pressure than the coolant's boiling point will not be increased which will cause excessive loss of coolant.

I agree. If you drive with a loose radiator cap of course it will overheat and lose coolant.

If you want to check for head gasket leaks ... get the engine good and hot (over normal if possible), open the coolant reservoir when the engine is idling and look for a stream of bubbles rising through the coolant (this is the coolant reservoir .. NOT the radiator pressure cap). Bubbles are caused by cylinder gasses escaping past leaky head gaskets.
