help 1996

I am changing the water pump on my 1996 sale (vulcan). I have the belt off, the pulley and alternator. There is a big bracket in the way that the alternator was on. How can I get this off or what other way might I get better access to the pump?
Thanks.

You don't have to remove the accessory bracket. You just have to remove the belt tensioner, idler pulley, and the water pump pulley, and removing the coolant bottle makes the job easier.

Re: help 1996

Its held on by two large studs that thread into the block. Remove the nuts, slide the bracket off as far as it will go, spray down the studs with pb blaster, wait and then use vice grips to remove them. I was surprised how easy they came off on an engine with 140K miles.
