I am in the final steps of adding cruise control to my 99 Taurus. Upgrades were going fine until it came to the steering wheel where I need to add the switches. Anyway, I just ordered a replacement column assembly from a junk yard that has the cruise control feature.

What I don't want to do is end up with another key for the car. What I would like to do is remove the key switch assembly from the existing column and swap it with the one in the column I am purchasing.

Anybody know if this can be easily done and how to suggestions or am I entering an area where special tools and secrets realm?

Very easy

Disconnect battery

Turn ignition to run

Underneath there is a small hole, poke up in here with a small screwdriver or punch and pull out on the cylinder.

Shoz....GREAT!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!! Now tomorrow when I visit the junk yard with high hopes the column assemble will be ready for pick up AND THE RIGHT COLOR, I will be able to swap the two tumblers.

Try to get a key with the column from the junk yard. To remove the switch, the key needs to be in the on position. Not a fun task without the key.
