Hi,

My 2001 Ford Taurus SEL 3.0 V6 DOC has developed a problem while idling. The car will vibrate / shake as the revs drop a little, but then the car idles correctly for a few more seconds and then does it again. It used to only do it while the AC was on but now its doing it all the time. Then the engine check light came on and it stopped doing it....however a few days later its back and the car also shudders a little while driving signifying that it is happening at speed and not just when idling. It feels as if the flow of fuel is momentarily blocked. Anyone any ideas what this could be. Ford have just recently replaced the fuel filter, and coolent fluids but I dont think its related. They also just replaced the starter relay. Persoanly I feel like its electrical but I really dont have a clue...any help is appreciated.

First you need to find out what the code is for the check engine light. It may be related. You can have that done at any Autozone stores for free. They will tell you the code number. When you get that let me know what it is and I will look it up for you!

I have this problem on my vulcan engine one year under yours. It is erratic and happens every once in a while.

Just got my 2001 Taurus with the 3.0L Duratec V6 fixed. It had a rough idle and would stall if you let the car idle too long. Only had a idle problem when the A/C was turned on or defrost. Car seemed to run fine when the climate controls were off. The check engine light never came on. Ford replaced what they called the "Low Idle Speed Sensor" and so far the car seems to be fixed. Sorry fixed under the used car limited warrentee so I don't know how much it costed or part numbers
