I have an 02 Taurus pushrod engine with 48k miles. I have an intermittent problem, it may occur 3 or 4 times in 5 minutes, and then is fine for two weeks. The car stalls when I come to a stop. It will always restart if I open the throttle slightly. But sometimes it will stall again as soon as I lift my foot off the throttle. I was looking at other threads on this forum, and one mentioned a throttle position sensor could be the culprit. Should I replace this sensor and see what happens? I have already replaced the fuel filter thinking that I may have had some water in the gas. The fuel filter was the original and it was time for a replacement. Thanks, in advance, for your comments. Sounds like a dirty throttle body to me. Remove the air intake tube at the throttle body and inspect for brown sludge. If this is found remove and clean the throttle body, remove the TPS to prevent contamination when cleaning, remoive the IAC valve to clean its passages too. You can clean it, use the spray can type carb. clean, use an OLD tooth brush to break loose the hard dirt after spraying with carb. clean. Make sure you have a new gasket for the throttle body and IAC valve.
