Leaking water from a '96 Taurus
I have water literally pouring out the bottom of the motor coming right down over the flywheel. I've done a thorough check and cannot find any external leaks. People have told me that there is a freeze plug located at the top of the block, inside where the bell housing connects to the motor. This may be wishful thinking, but is there way to access that area without having to completely remove the transmission or the motor?
And while I'm at it: the motor got hot because we lost too much water, and eventually it blew a gasket. Both heads are off as we speak, and while they are, would it be an easier task to try to get at that freeze plug with the heads off; or should I go ahead and do the gasket job first and get the heads back on, then pull the transmission apart from the motor?
