Motor is shot...Should I pay to repair?

I have a 99 sable that needs another motor and probably a transmission as well. Car has over 265 thousand on it. A local auto shop tells me he can replace the motor and trans with used equipment for about $2,000. Car has been a very reliable car until now and has a decent body and interior. I know blue book is low due to miles. Anybody have any thoughts? Should I repair or simply junk it? I can't seem to make a decision on it.

Mark

Junk it or see if one of your junkyards has a low mileage setup that they will waarantee. Around here the reliable junkyard give 30 days.

The motor is shot. It has 265,000 on it. Its Blowing oil out the dipstick. Trans is slipping also. The question I was asking is if anybody thinks the car is worth repairing or should I just let it go on to ford heaven?

Go get you another car. That car is not worth both a tranny and an engine. If it was one or the other, then cool, but both?

Re: Motor is shot...Should I pay to repair?

depends; how good is the rest of the car? Have you looked at the 200+ years? we have an 01, we like it pretty good.

But if the suspension, brakes and other is all good, then it might be worth it. One other thing; I don't know if I would spend $2K on unknown mileage engine and tranny. I would go with rebuilt/remanufactured, spend 500-1000 more and get the warranty. then at least you should be good for 100K+ on the engine and maybe even on the tranny.
