Hi to all. It's been awhile since I have been on here and I have a few questions.
2000 Ford Taurus SE OHV V6 with 191,000 miles.

I have an exhaust leak. My code comes up PO153.O2 sensors are fine but I haven't done a smoke leak test yet.

I see that by the first flange leading away from the Cat that there is black smoot. I think its the resonator. Can that be easily replaced by loosening the flanges and will it just drop out or will I have to cut it out?

I priced the resonator at $98 at RockAuto but I am just in the planning phases.

Question # 2 This car is originally from NJ and I see that one of the fuel tank straps is rusting.Probably all the snow salt.

Is changing the straps hard to do. How does one go about taking the strap off because it seems like I have to scrape it off the tank.

Any of the resonators I've seen are flanged in the from and welded in the back. If it's that old you'll probably have to replace the bolts as well. As far as the straps, mke sure the tank is empty and supported, usually not too hard. I've never changed the gas thank on a Taurus, but I've taken a few out without much issue. Just take a close look at where the straps lie across the tank, make sure the straps aren't hiding corrosion on the tank prior to re-attaching.

You can also replace on strap at a time but still make sure the tank is supported in case the strap left breaks. There's usually a bolt on one end of the strap and a pin that slides out on the other end when the strap is dropped down.

Bert thanks for your quick response. I appreciate it. Can I support the tank with a 3 ton jack and a couple of 2x4 That is the plan for now.

Yes you can, but try replacing one strap at a time.
