New Battery fixes EGR and catalytic converter

Hey guys I was just wondering if something was possible.
Let me set up the situation.
1) About three weeks ago my dad gave me a 2001 Ford Taurus. It had the check engine light on and he told me that a mechanic had told him it was the catalytic converter.
2) Two weeks ago I went to get my coolant flushed out since it became rusty. The mechanic checked the code for the engine light and he told me there was two codes, EGR and Catalytic Converter.

So that brings us to today. I changed my battery drove around for about 25 miles and the check engine light did not come up. The old battery was some generic crappy brand 58r, and I upgrade to an everstart 36r. Is it possible the battery might have fixed the issue or is it just going to come back later.

Nope. You cleared the codes by removing the battery. If the problem was intermittent, the check engine light should have gone off after so many run cycles. If the light does not come back on, that's more than likely what it was, an intermittent issue.

Yeah thats what I thought, that removing the battery would clear the code. The thing was that it was not intermittent. The check engine light was on 24/7.

Our computerized powertrains have an adaptive learning function and battery disconnection will reset everything. The car will then re-learn certain things over a series of starts, stops, various speeds, etc. This can take a couple days sometimes. Unfortunately, I don't think your problem is solved and that light will return.

What are your codes? Maybe we can help. :)

Hello and good day:

Go to AutoZone, or Advance Auto, and have them Read the OBDII Codes for you...Make sure you get the Exact Type of "P" code it is...and what it is related to...

Haynes has a Manual for Certain codes for certain cars.

Get back to us on the Numbers....
