There is a DRL module located behind the front bumper on the driver's side by the radiator. The DRL (Daytime Running Light) module has probably failed.
With the light switch in the auto position the running lamps light but no head lights - only when the head lamp is switched on manually do they illuminate
There are two relays in the Central Junction Box under the hood for the auto lamps. Both fed by the same fuse. One is for the park lights and the other is for the headlights. Sounds like the headlight relay is bad.
They are cheap if you don't get OEM. Go to a store that sells fog lights and use one of those relays. Usually under $10.
