I have a 2004 Ford Taurus SOHC.

I went ~6 months with a bad catalytic converter. I just had the cat replaced last week.

About ~2 months ago (while driving w/ a bad cat), I heard a 'knock', and since then, my Taurus does the following:

* Rough Idle
* Jerks around ~40 mph
* 'Knocking' sound near the gas pedal, when I accelerate at reasonable rate

OBD-II codes show:

* P0302 - Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
* P0316 - Fault definition not available or Manufacturer specific


The body shop (that replaced the cat) recommended "... vehicle is running rough possibly spark plug or fuel system related"

Any ideas as to what is going on here?

First thing I would check was the plugs / leads .

What would you be looking for while you check the plugs / leads ?

A worn , fouled up plug , different colour from others . If not that check lead is supplying good spark to plug or check lead with a meter .

I have a 2004 Taurus Wagon with the same symptoms and codes coming up for the last 6-8 months. I have changed the plugs and the ignition coil with no improvement. I was about to have the catalytic converter changed but from your post I couldn't tell if that solved you problem. Are you still having the same problem with loss of power/running rough when stepping on the gas?

Wouldn't do any harm to check plug wires / leads .Could be one breaking down .
