P0402

A few weeks ago I got the P0401 code on my Taurus. So I took the EGR valve off and cleaned it real good to get rid of the carbon deposits. Earlier this week however, I got the P0402 code. Excessive flow. Could this be the Sensor? Also, last night I was driving and the car stalled out while I was driving. I pulled to the side of the road and the car started back up. THen it stalled out again on the way home and I pulled it off and it started back up. Could the excessive flow be choking out the engine?? Is that possible??

cool Re: P0402

You most likely have an EVR (EGR vacuum regulator)sticking open when it provides vacuum to the EGR on decel and coasting which would cause the P0402 and the stalling. I don't think it is the EGR valve position sensor.

Re: P0402

A code P0402 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
  1. The DPFE (differential pressure) sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced
  2. There is a blockage in the EGR (most likely carbon buildup)
  3. The EGR valve is faulty
  4. The EGR valve may not be opening due to a lack of vaccuum
You should look at a likely solution of replacing the DPFE sensor.
  1. Check the voltage at the DPFE sensor both at idle and when the EGR is open
  2. Replace the DPFE sensor
