roll Painted over VIN

Guys, I sold my Taurus (99) to a guy down the street. The car needs to have a safety inspection,(salvage title) The problem we have is the VIN on the fender was painted over, DMV wants to make sure the fender is not stolen. Is the VIN stamped anywhere on the fender? I can't see it on the old hood, so I am worried they will fail him.
Any suggestions? Anyone have an old fender in their yard we can use the VIN , you know a wrecked fender?

Can't wait to here the responses.

Re: Painted over VIN

What state do you live in ???? Your DMV is worried a fender on a 8 YEAR OLD CAR might be stolen???? .

I truthfully was not aware that VIN's were on FENDERS of cars................... BIG construction Equipment, sure but fenders???????????

Get some ink, some stamps, and "stamp" the vin on the fender... problem solved

Yup,
I live in the great state of Connecticut. Yes, the hood has a small label on it with the VIN and I think the fenders do also, on the inside lip, where the hood would close on it or the lip inside where you can see it only when the door is open, on the 99 they do. I was told at the junkyard though, they fall off all the time, cause being outside and all.
Yes, Connecticut, high wages, high taxes, gas prices, high amount of road construction, crappy weather, etc.

Just the labels, the VIN plate, and the cert. label on the LF door. No stampings. If the label is stil there and just covered by paint, just scratch the paint off gently with a screwdriver carefully and you should be fine.
