
I guess I have to do my own leggwork here. I will post this for anyone else with the same problem. I looked on Autozone troubleshooting website and found this discription; Component Locations - PCV Valve
On your 1996 Mercury Sable, the Component Locations - PCV Valve is:
Under hood, center, upper engine area, front driver side of engine, mounted in intake manifold
I then looked and looked and finally took the air filter cover off right up to the throttle body. Look just under the throttle body and there it is. The rubber hoses for these components were in poor shape too so check all hoses for mushiness, cracks, or collapses. Hope this helps others. By the way car was consuming oil which I believe is due to bad PCV valve.
