Anyone have any idea why the power windows on my 97 Taurus would just stop working? Everything else still works. Windows just stopped. Window lock switch is in proper position. Don't se any blown fuses in the under hood box. help!

3 reasons why this is.

1: Your window's motor is either broken or fell out of place causeing it to work but not move the window.

2: Your fuse is blown for that section

3: Faulty wiring

You can simply just get it checked out

If all the windows quit at once, then I would find the bad relay for the windows.

Have a reliable body shop check it out.
It only takes a few minutes and the labor should no exceed $40.00 to completely R/R a motor. A new motor should cost around $50.00 [from an auto parts store. An authorized Ford dealer probably will charge a whole lot more.

Motors are all fine, it was a blown fuse.

Ok, what blew the fuse??? A fuse rarely blows for no reason. Sometimes age is a factor but this is rare.

I agree. The fuse that has now blown twice is #27, the battery saver relay fuse. When it blows, I lose all power windows and the dome lights. I need to find out *why* that fuse is blowing. Ideas?

Check the harness wire between the door and the 'a' pillar. You can see it when the door is open. You'll probably find a busted wire.

You may need to pull the drivers door panel to look for a shorted wire. All power window controls go thru the drivers door panel.

I know this is an old thread but I found it when i had problems this week and was looking for help to fix my power windows on a 1997 Sable.

I had complete failure of the power window system.
After many hours of over a three days of stripping down doors and checking fuses and relays I searched the web and found the two items below.





The diagnostic chart gave me an idea of what could be wrong but the wiring diagram was just perfect. Twenty minutes later I was finished. I though I would post them for anyone who may need them. Hope they can help.


I won't bore the pants of anyone about my story but if someone thinks it may help them and wants a laugh at may expense, I'll share (I only find it funny now I found and fixed the problem!)

sorry to here your windows dont work bummer. Take the inner fender out on the drivers front fender and look at the wiring . There should be a black plastic guide which the wires make the turn by the a pillar. If the the wire is not rubbed by the plastic and causing a short look for a swell in the wire.I believe the wire is green which powers your window relay.
