I'm a young kid that needs a cheap, good running car...

I've been considering a Taurus and as well as a few other makes/models.

I understand that the 3.0 Vulcan has a good track record. I'm uncertain about the transmission though - is this the weakest link?

What is considered high mileage for a Taurus? I'm also considering an older Camry and I know for sure that their powertrains are bulletproof.

I saw one at a nearby lot, I'll probably make sure that it doesn't leak, shifts well, and the CV's are in good shape... Anything else I should be paying attention to?

I'm gonna be making a 120 mile freeway drive each weekend, will an older Taurus be ok?

Any thoughts, experiences, or opinions would be greatly helpful. THANK YOU:)

Yes the transmission is a weak link. I always see several older Camry's with well over 150,000 miles for sale in my local paper and even with that many miles most of them cost over $2000. That should tell you something about their reliability. I hardly see any older tauruses for sale. Most are probably in the junk yard, a lot for broken transmissions. I'd go with the camry. Its always good to have a mechanic check out any used car before buying just to be on the safe side.

Yeah, I agree with you. After reading other information, the transmission definitely sucks...

If you can find a few extra bucks, get one of those Ford GT's. They are much better than any Taurus or Camry.
