random rapid acceleration

Sudden engine RPM jumps up to 4500. Has occured while driving, stopped while in gear & while stopped in park. Ford says they can't locate a problem. Wondering where to start.... electronic. mechanical or vacuum? Does computer store this info?

Thanks for any help!!
Go Vols!!

Re: random rapid acceleration

Year of car and engine would be nice info to have.

Does this happen when the cruise control is on?

Re: random rapid acceleration

I had my cruise stick on a couple of occasions.

But this sounds like a PCM problem. Wonder if the '05s have the Throttle by Wire? Don't think they do.
