My a/c compressor clutch broke and my mechanic said that I not only need to replace the compressor but also the evaporator and filteras well as all the a/c piping.

Has anyone replaced the a/c compressor without replacing the evaporator and other piping. My mechanic said that if I replace the compressor only then my a/c will not cool properly.

Any advise on this issue is appreciated.

If it was just the clutch then that is all that needs replaced. If the compressor itself blew up internally then the system needs replaced as there would be bits of metal all throughout the it.

Replacing the clutch does not need to change all these parts unless its difficult to work on when its attached to the engine or your compressor is busted,,
Replacing the A/C compressor means refregrant evacuation, you may only flash the evaporator and the condenser, replace the Drier ("must" because of evacuation of refregrant), you may also replace the sheap orifice tube (optional unless its also busted), that's all you need and recharge the system again with R-134a refregrant gas after vcuuming the system for half an hour,, cheers mate..
