1995 Taurus, gear shift can not move out of Park position when the brake pedal is depressed. The brake light is on when the brake pedal is depressed. Seems something wrong with the interlock control.
There is another way to work around this by turn the key to OFF position, change the shift to N then ignite. This is on the owner's manual and it works for me.
Want to repair the problem by myself but I can not find anything useful from Haynes's repair manual and there is no guide for the interlock part.
Searched web and there are some detail for other models like TOYATA and VOLVO, but they are console mounted and not column mounted like I have.
Anybody can provide some suggestions? Thanks in advance!!

Contact the ford Dealership nearest you. There is a recall/TSB for this problem.

Thanks for the idea. Finally I fix the problem by myself. There is a small switch near the break pedal and the wires are almost broken. Clean and reconnect it then it's fine now. But I'm confused that the common idea is if the switch is bad the brake light should not work too. So it's strange the break light is fine and only the shift got problem.

Well there is that BPP sensor on the brake pedal arm. If that is interupted or has no signal that will cause the problem that you are experiencing as well. I always forget about that little part. It is a good way to disable your car as an anti theft device to some extent.
