Should I overfill the tranny? - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

While I was at the local yard pulling the rack & pinion for my 2000 Taurus, the guy who runs the place happened to mention that "on those years, the transmissions have a dry bearing" - he suggested that I overfill it 1 quart. Has anyone ever heard of this? I hesitate to post a second-hand junkyard rumor on here, but the guy seemed pretty confident about this, and I would hate to ruin my trans because I passed up the advice.

Anyone know if it would hurt to overfill the tranny? Has anyone heard of this "dry bearing" rumor?

I wouldnt. I have always been told if you overfill one it will cause it to leak and cause shifting problems. I would think it would churn the fluid inside of the case and cause it to foam also.

nope it should be on fill line after it has been warmed up
