I have a 98 Taurus with the 3.0 Vulcan that we picked up on the cheap to be my son's 1st car. I has an odd electrical problem that I have never seen before. If you disconnect the battery then put the cables back on it gives the ding-ding-ding and then starts. Applying the brake will shut the engine back off. There must be a short somewhere, but I don't know where to look. The dome light stays on as well, but I didn't see a switch on the body like other cars. Ideas.

Uh...have you ever heard of the invention called the aftermarket remote start??? The car obviously has one- some of those systems do that when reconnecting the battery. The shutting off when stepping on the brakes is a safety feature so someone can't steal the car. Door ajar switches are on the door latches inside the door. Lube the latches well with WD40 and open and close the doors a few times. This usually takes care of dome light and ajar light issues. Make sure the dimmer switch isn't turned all the way up either.
