steering wheel shakes while braking

Ok, again its my '93 Taurus on its way for perfection...

The sterring wheel shakes while i brake, i had the tie rods replaces several monthes ago so i believe its not them, however i inspected both wheels and found some ball joints (on both front wheels) with their rubber torn. how is this ball joits can be purchased, or maybe the whole rod with the ball joints ?
see pics.
i also have a chronic transmission leak (very little but still a leak) so i replaced the bottom gasket (took off the old one and used gasket maker putty) but still its there. maybe from the location circeled ? what is it anyway ?

Those balljoints are actually sway bar end links. They won't cause the shaking while braking. That would be from warped brake rotors. The other picture is for the Low-Intermediate Servo. I've never done one but here's a picture of it when out.

WARNING: The spring inside that servo can be under some pretty wicked tension. Be careful!

I should have mentioned that. Thanks.

There is NO pressure on that spring unless you try to take it apart while driving in 1st
gear. there is a very good chance you will find that spring broken if you open it up.

EEk! I was just reflecting back on a valve body drop my buddy and I did, and on one of those servos, that cap flew off once the snap ring was removed. This is different though I guess. That was a different tranny, different different car, and maybe a different servo. The spring was compressed on the one we removed, that's all I know.

Maybe this car is different, but here is cut and pasted from another site regarding a Lincoln LS. Same concept I would think:

17. WARNING: The upper and lower servo covers are under spring tension. Use care when removing the piston and cover assembly. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

I'll go back to my corner now.

Re: steering wheel shakes while braking

Thanks for all you guys for the support.

i had my trans fixed a couple of years ago (maybe less) and only done less that 10,000Km, but it seems they didnt do much of a good job (although the car drives now fine, which it didnt when i had the problem) as i have to find where the leak is from (the trans pan is always wet of red trans oil) and this servo gasket may be the cause .
regarding the sway bar end links, i must have them replaced as they wont pass the annual test - i know those guys there - they always fail you on the smallest thing...
Thanks again you all !!

Re: steering wheel shakes while braking

Make sure the leak isn't from the dipstick tube O'ring. Good luck on the test.

Re: steering wheel shakes while braking

Thanks for the idea Bert.

This O-ring is in the connection of the tube to the trans? or is it between the dipstick itself to the tube ?

Re: steering wheel shakes while braking

It's around the tube where it goes into the trans. In your picture with the servo, you can see where the tube goes into the trans. It could run down next to the servo cover to the pan area.
