Hi All,

I have a 1996 Taurus with a 3.0l engine. As the title states, it will not come out of overdrive unless manually selected on the shifter. I checked the electrical plugs going into the transmisson, and they seem fine. Is there a common problem with this issue? I have been reading through the forums but no luck finding anything with this problem. Thanks for your help.

Do you mean that when you stop and try to take off it's stuck in overdrive and lugs along unless you move the shift lever?

Exactly, even starting from park, can feel it go into OD soon as car starts to move. does not downshift whatsoever. Only when manually put into D or !st.

It may have a code for the problem. If you take it to Autozone, they will check the codes for free. that way if there is one we may be able to get an idea of where to start. Has the transmission been serviced? How many miles are on it?

thanks for your reply, the car has 100k miles, unsure if any work has been done to it, just normal service, flush and filter. thought it maybe was a common problem and an easy fix, going to bring it to the garage on mon. to have it scanned. Thanks again for your help
