Taurus 1995 Transmission Problem
My 1995 Taurus transmission was overhauled just last month. I am not satisfied on how it performs after the overhaul. Here are the problems:
The transmission downshifts when on overdrive. I know it because I can hear the engine sound running very high.
Sometimes, I feel the trans shifting very hard. This occurs when I try to decelarate either from overdrive or 3rd gear to slow down, but soon as I try accelearat eto gain speed again, I feel shaking on the car as it shifts gear.
Returned it to the mechanic. Computer keeps on showing fault code 641, shift solenoid #3 circuit fault, although all the shift solenoids were replaced already. Changed MLPS. Problem still persist. Finally installed MLPS for 91 Taurus (have to removed some groove to fot into the 95 trans), which he found on the garage and the downshifting disappeared. Strange !!! I still have the hard shifting mentioned above.
Anybody can tell me why the 91 MLPS works on my 95 Taurus? I still don't like this idea. I don't believe that it is the MLPS problem. I think that there still some problem, electrical maybe. Ford dealer told me that the 91 MLPS is no longer in production and that it uses newer MLPS. In fact the dealer showed me that 91 MLPS and the 95 MLPS are both same(same part code), except that the 91 MLPS comes also with a service kit to modify the connector.
Maybe it is the 641 code that still shows and that causes the MLPS to malfunction. I don't know. The wire harness were check for continuity and it is ok. Can anybody tell me how to fix this 641 fault code?
Please help.
