LOTS of electrical/wiring/grounding problems. Climate control unit only comes on when the car is at rest. Hit the gas and it shorts out. I'd really love to know how to fix this, as I live in OH and will need the heat come October or so.
In case anyone has the same problem, I had a charging problem. Replaced the battery cables and it fixed the problem temporarily but now my alternator is going so I am looking for one of those.
My worst problem was covered under a recall. I sat down in the car and the spring in the front snapped in half causing the tire to puncture. The dealer was very cool about it. They put new springs on it, gave me a loaner car, and put a new tire on it for me AND washed the car. I'll tell you what, it is a shame that Ford has taken the back seat to quality, BUT inmy experience ALL the cars today are made for sh*t, the difference is in the service. I have never been treated better than when I am at a Ford Dealer. Owned 2 Chevy's, Mazda 323, 3 Ford Taurus and a Dodge. Of all of those cars the Taurus have been the most reliable.
I bought a 2000 Taurus with 38,000 miles. The transmission never felt "right" to me from day one. At less than 50,000 miles it took a dump to the tune of $1500. Sold it immediately, bought a new 2004 Crown Victoria and never looked back. I'm a Ford man through and through, but I'd never recommend a Taurus to anyone.
Well, Well, Well. Where do i start. Right now my '97 taurus GL is parked because my Tranny has a really bad leak. so im on foot again. Just weeks earlier my taurus konked out in the middle of the street. it was a bad crank sensor which as easy to fix. somehow my anti-freeze it leaking from behind the engine area. before that one of my brake lines rotted and i had almost no stopping power. it costed me about $120 to fix that. before that my Engine went up due to a bad head gasket. I had to spend over $1000 to get another engine. Ive had probs from the start. I bought it on July 5 2006. not even 1 year ago. It been a Pain And them some.
2003 SES 24V bought new. Sporadic prob here ...after car is warm & then idles for a bit, it will bog when ya hit the gas. Like the brakes are stuck & then it will go. FYI ... brakes were ruled out. Brought into Ford ... they couldn't find prob. Car has 101k on it now & still does it.
Had dome light staying on prob also
Driver side rear door handle ... bad fit & scrapes to open it.
Factory paint job not the best & chips very easily.
This is fairly painful for a guy who has owned Fords, and still has two, for 37 years. When I set out to replace my SHO, I happened to drive a Lexus. Never considered owning one as I hated Japanese cars in general. I set out to find a Lincoln LS. Drove four of them, various years, all with V8's. I most likely would have bought one if not for the fact that I had previously drove a GS series Lexus. Compared to the GS, the Lincolns just didn't measure up. Ended up buying a used GS-430. Paid a little more than a comparable LS. I have had the car for over two years now, the clock just past 90K. For the first time ever, I have not had one single thing fail. Routine maintenance is all I have done. It's a mid 14 second in the quarter car, easily go 130 and dead quiet inside. Pretty sad state of affairs when a car manufacturer slips as badly as Ford and GM have.

/\ /\ /\ /\ That is funny...I wonder if he is driving a Lexus now?
Update on my '01 Taurus...I have not lost any coolant since replacing my resevoir.
After replacing the heater core, the fogging window and antifreeze smell in the car has not returned
I have a leak of some type. I can't tell if it is ttransmission, oil, or power steering. It is not enough to notice a signifacant loss onthe dipstick. The embarrassing part about it is that it seem to collect on the exhaust near the right front wheel. When the engine is warm, it noticably smokes. I guess the good thing is that people will not park by my car shortly after I park due to the smoke coming from the wheel bay area and front of the car.
The overheat issue is still there, it has been cold enough though along with running the heater that it is not an issue right now. I plan to replace the water pump in the next few weeks. When I was replacing the alternator last Fall, I spun the pump crank and could not feel anything grinding, no leaks so I assumed it is OK. It might still be - it is the cheapest thing I can think of on the list of items that may cause the overheat that I haven't done yet.

He was from Australia so he's probably driving a s---y Opel. Do you have a 3.0L Vulcan or a 3.0L Duratec??? Reason I ask is because the Duratec P/S pump can seep on the bottom and drip on the exhaust. Another possibilty is the R. axle seal on the trans.

Probably a Vulcan if there are cooling problems. There is a guy on TCCA who just replaced his pump and there were no impellers left. If I had a Vulcan I would be flushing the cooling at least once a year.
This is flushing the heater core. The guy said he had to cycle the water on and off over 40 times before it ran clear every time.
