Taurus Transmission Issues

Howdy. I been having the sound come out for a little while now, but just now it becomes a problem. In the past mornings of this week, my can won't shift out of gears. It will go to like 1st or 2nd no problem, then rev the rpms and do nothing til I hit the brake or gas. Sometimes it wouldn't do anything for a bit. I thought at first it was cause I didn't let it heat up enough in the morning (I read on the dip stick of transmission fluid rod that you check it while in park after it has been on.). This morning, I got down the road, and now it won't even get into first or reverse. I am hoping all I need to do is change fluid or something, but any advice would help.

Re: Taurus Transmission Issues

You don't give the year or model of your car but the problem you are experiencing is typical of a cracked forward clutch piston inside the automatic AXODE transmission. I regret to inform you that there is no easy solution to the problem other than pulling the unit (transmission) and replacing the part. As I've said before .. it's cheaper to find an old junker Taurus (you can pick them up for about $500) and use the parts than it is to rebuild the transmission .. just make sure that the replacement transmission is functional.

If your car is less then 10 years old, you may be able to get Ford to cover part of the cost of a rebuilt transmission.
