I have a 1996 Ford Taurus. I need to replace the transmission line connector that goes to the transmission ( not the radiator ) because it is leaking at the connector. I need to know exactly how to go about this. I am a woman, but I can do some minor mechanic jobs. Any help will do. Thanks. Kuddlyk54

May I first suggest that you go to your local Auto Parts store like AutoZone, or Advance Auto....and buy a Haynes, or Chilton's Repair Manual for your Taurus.

I am truly sorry to say....I am not clear on this "Connector" your are describing...with out seeing it...any way to submit a Photo??

I am going to see if some of the other guys here like (Jwko..Tbird..Chipset...360...and a few more)...they may have a better Idea what you are referring to..

If it's the same as 99, there should be 2 plastic tabs where the line goes into the fitting. Squeeze the tabs and pull the line out. The fitting is screwed into the trans. Use a wrench or socket if possible, and rotate the fitting in a counter-clockwise direction. It most likely will be very tight but one good push of the wrench should work. Installation is reverse of removal. Post a picture on here of the fitting so we can confirm this is what you have.

One small hint i'll give you if you have the connectors i think you do. As the lines are
replaced into the connectors make absolutely sure the lines are " straight " and PERFECTLY at 180 degs. and level to the fittings or they will leak. There is only a small
" O " ring that does the sealing and the pressure of the trans cooling fluid pushing on the
" O " ring. If the line is off center just a bit it will leak. If your lines are bent and you
straighten them it might stop leaking. Maybe. B.T.W. keep the lines clean and
you will loose about 1 pint of fluid. Recheck your trans level after your work.
