tire size selection - 2002 Sable/taurus

I have a 2002 Mercury Sable with 215/60R16 tires... I want to know if anyone knows if I put 225/60R16 tires on if there would be any real problems... Ford and some of the larger tire distributors don't recommend it and/or won't put it on for me... but... they won't tell me not to do it either or what problems I could have... I've got some reliable friends that tell me this is a trivial difference... Let me know... Ray

I'm no expert but usually if you want to go up a tire size it would be best to go down one size on you side wal height. This will keep the diameter orthe ire real close the same as the ones you started out with. So I would probably use 225/55R16.

Hope this helps.

Question Re: tire size selection - 2002 Sable/taurus

Why do you want to make a change like this??? Are you getting free tires??? The original equipment continental tires are only $43-$53 at your Ford dealer or from The Tire Rack. They last long enough if rotated like any other tire.

Thanks for your comments... and yes... I got a free set of Michelins and I if I can use them, I will.... It seems like they should work, and like I said... a couple of car guys I know said go ahead and the "tire professionals" tell me it is not recommended but stop short when I ask if it will work... Re: tire size selection - 2002 Sable/taurus

I got some GoodYear Assurance Tripple Tread's and they didn't have the right size, 205/65/15 and instead put on something like 215/65/15 claiming it wouldn't harm anything and was just a wider tire and that they could even go up to 225/65/15. Can anyone think of any adverse effects this might have? Seems to handle incredibly good now though.
